A piece of a model I was gluing together went on wrong and hardened before I noticed. Just wondering if there is a way to loosen plastic glue or separate the two pieces without damaging the plastic.

You need to use a glue solvent. If this was CA Glue (super glue) then you need a product like this:

If it was a plastic model glue similar to Estes glue I have been told that a company called Great Plains makes a Debonder that will work and should be available at a local hobby store.

The problem is that most comercial solvents that will soften the glue will also soften the plastic, so if unable to get a solvent designed for it I would suggest carefully using a modeling knife to cut the parts away from each other.

Applying liquid model cement can sometimes loosen the weld between parts. Apply with an old brush repeatedly on the seam and work the parts loose. If you don’t wamt to try this, Soak the parts in Easy Off oven cleaner(foaming type) in a small Rubbermaid type tub for a while and start to loosen them. Wear gloves and do it outside.

Any damage done by the glue to the parts can be sanded away with 220 and finer wet/dry sandpaper. Always wet sand styrene, the dust from dry sanding can be toxic. Good luck.
